Samsung’s Chrome extension for Internet Browser sync has stopped working since October 29 this year. The extension helps users sync bookmarks between their PCs and Samsung smartphones.
The Samsung Internet extension for Chrome, which lets users bookmark a webpage and sync between their PC and Samsung phone, has been down for weeks due to an unexpected issue: an expired domain.
Samsung Internet domain expired
When you visit the Samsung Internet Chrome extension page in the Web Store, install the extension, and launch it, it will automatically redirect you to the expired samsunginternet.com website. The problem was noticed when users trying to log in were redirected to the expired samsunginternet.com site.
Samsung Internet extension down for weeks
According to reports, the extension has been broken since at least October 29, with users on the Chrome Web Store and Reddit raising concerns. Apart from that, some users reported witnessing a few errors while using the extension a few days ago when it went down.
The threat
The expiry of the Samsung Internet domain not only disrupts functionality but also poses a security risk, as it could be exploited by attackers to direct extension users to malicious sites.
The Samsung Internet Chrome extension is still important for those who want to keep their PC and Samsung phone bookmarks in sync. Users will need to wait for Samsung to either renew the domain or update the extension with a new login system.
